Scholarship Winners

The 2018-2019 recipient of the Harry C. Baker Memorial Scholarship award of 500.00 at NDSU was given to Jason Gilbraith of Fargo.  Jason is a 4th year student studying Horticultural Production.  He is also the Treasurer of NDSU’s Horticulture & Forestry Club.  Outside of school, Jason currently runs and operates his family-run urban farm, JLGreens, LLC.  They grow produce and mushrooms for the local community (markets, co-ops, and chefs).  Jason was born and raised in Fargo and graduated from Davies High.  After graduation, Jason plan on expanding the family urban farm to a larger operation.  Jason’s family has farm land north of Moorhead which is where they are currently planning their expansion.

The 2018-2019 recipient of the Nicholas N. Boehm Scholarship award of 500.00 at Dakota College in Bottineau is Janie Vandal.  She graduated from Bottineau High School in 2016 and attended NDSU for 2 years.  She had worked for Lowe’s Garden Center and then decided Horticulture was her true calling.  So, Janie enrolled at Dakota College where she maintained a 4.0 GPA.  She hopes to teach horticulture and/or be involved with greenhouse work in some form after graduation.
